If you’re looking to hire a director, use this director job description to outline director tasks and salary. Some of this information you’ll use in a job description, and others you’ll use in an interview.

GOALS FOR HIRING YOU AS A DIRECTOR:

  • At the end of the day, to do 95% of my current tasks so that I can use my time working with other clients
    • You would handle all aspects of business (including teachers, parents, students, events, Kindergarten testing, business management, marketing, licensing etc.)
    • The only things the owner would help with would be to train you, answer your questions, train new teachers, do the business finances, and assist with graduation and meet ‘n greets
  • We would expect that the business would remain stable with full enrollment, happy parents, and happy teachers; we would hope that you would even grow it to be stronger than it currently is by:
    • Increasing enrollment
    • Increasing parent satisfaction
    • Increasing student satisfaction
    • Increasing teacher satisfaction

BENEFITS TO THIS JOB

  • Extremely rewarding – you are helping children grow and develop into confident, capable children – the teachers are happy to work here and the parents love our preschool
  • Work from home or from the school (where would you like to work?)
  • Is flexible with your children’s school schedules; Be home (most days) when your kids are out of school
  • 99% of the time there is no work on the weekend; teachers don’t contact you and neither do parents (every now and then a random person will call for a tour)
  • No selling (all of our marketing and parent referrals sells it before they even show up)

YOUR SKILLS

  • Writing (Spelling/Grammar)
  • Social Media (Facebook/Pinterest/Instagram)
  • Communication (Tell of a time when someone got upset at you on the phone; how did you handle it?  How do you feel afterwards?)

FUTURE PLANS

  • How long would you like to work with our school?

LEGAL

  • If you became our Director, you would have access to almost every process, tool, and file that I use to run this business.  As you can imagine, that is incredibly sensitive information.  It could hurt the business if any of that information was shared with someone else or was used to start your own preschool.  Do you have any plans to start your own preschool in the future or teach others to start their own preschool?  The job would require you to sign a non-compete and NDA agreements; would you be willing to do that?

SOME DETAILS

  • You would have access to the company phone
  • All files require Internet access – use Dropbox
  • “On-call” is only M-F 7:15am-3pm.  (Parents need key code, tell you someone new is dropping off, late picking up, or child is sick.)  Sometimes a teacher may contact you to solve a problem with a child.
  • Teachers may call you in the middle of the night if they are sick and need a sub; sometimes parents will randomly text or call you; but it’s not an emergency
  • Tours could be done before school or after school

SALARY

  • $4,000/mo.
  • Be available: M-F 7 a.m.-5 p.m. (Even though this looks like 50 hours per week, you’re not working all those hours. You only need to be “on call” if anything happens. You’ll typically be working 20-30 hours per week.)
  • This is a part-time position that can be done anywhere (you do not have to be at the schoolhouse).

We hope that this job description, list of tasks, and salary is helpful as you hire a director.
