If you’d like to build your preschooler’s math skills, make sure that you don’t forget about helping them learn how to measure food.
WHY PRESCHOOLERS SHOULD MEASURE FOOD
Measuring food is an important life skill. When you cook with your child they learn techniques, such as measuring, that they will use later in life for cooking and baking. It also reinforces basic math concepts and builds language skills.
Learning to measure food benefits children’s overall development. They gain confidence as they build independence, practice following directions, and problem solving skills. Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are also developed.
