If you’d like to build your preschoolers math skills, make sure that you don’t forget about helping them count.
WHY PRESCHOOLERS SHOULD COUNT
When preschoolers learn to count they begin to understand the meaning behind numbers, which is important in developing future math skills. When children count items rather than just recite numbers, they’re learning to recognize quantities of objects, which requires more cognitive ability than simply memorizing. Preschoolers will usually begin learning to count by saying numbers randomly, and should master counting from 1-10 in order before moving on. By the age of five preschoolers can usually count in order to at least 20.
