*NOTE: This is a kindergarten skill, but we’re sharing here because many preschoolers are advanced. If your preschooler is ready for this skill, feel free to teach it!
If you’d like to build your preschooler’s math skills, make sure that you don’t forget about helping them identify coins and their value.
WHY PRESCHOOLERS SHOULD IDENTIFY COINS AND THEIR VALUE
Learning to identify coins and their value can help your preschooler learn important math skills, as well as teach them to appreciate what they have. Preschoolers can use coins to learn how to count. Once they have mastered counting by 1’s, they can use coins to learn skip counting, which is counting by 5’s or 10’s. When your preschooler is able to understand the value behind coins, they can begin to understand that the items they see in the store cost something, which can help your preschooler understand why they can’t take home everything they want.
