*NOTE: This is a kindergarten skill, but we’re sharing here because many preschoolers are advanced. If your preschooler is ready for this skill, feel free to teach it!
If you’d like to build your preschooler’s literacy skills, make sure that you don’t forget about helping them distinguish ending sounds.

WHY PRESCHOOLERS SHOULD DISTINGUISH ENDING SOUNDS
Recognizing ending sounds is important in building your preschoolers phonemic awareness, which is the ability to recognize sounds within words. Your preschooler will learn to distinguish the beginning, middle, and end of words and then learn to blend all of the sounds together to form a word. Learning to distinguish ending sounds helps your preschooler learn that words that begin with the same sounds can have different endings, and they should never assume they know what a word says just based off of the beginning.
