You love your daycare parents, you love their children, and you don’t want to leave them in a bind concerning their childcare, but you just can’t continue the 12 hour days, and if you have to change any more dirty diapers!!! 

Daycare can be an exhausting job. Switching to a preschool only program can free up a lot of your time and your energy. But how do you make the switch without losing a month or two of income? Here’s how to do it.

Tell All Your Preschool Parents That You Are Switching To A Preschool Only Program

Gently tell them that you won’t be able to watch their children anymore because you will longer be taking children full time, all day long. You won’t be watching them before your preschool class, and you won’t be watching them after your preschool class. Your preschool program will only be for ages 3-5 and only for 2-3 hours each day. 

Let them know that if they can arrange transportation to and from your preschool class you will be happy to enroll their 3-5-year-old child in your preschool class. Have some recommendations of some local daycares they can check out. The parents will pay you for their last month of service because they still need childcare while they are searching for an alternative.

Next, Start Marketing Your Preschool

The last 30 days before you open your preschool will be busy! (In reality, the 30 days before that will probably have been pretty busy, too, because you will have been getting training and getting things in place to make a seamless switch to your new preschool business.) The day you talk to your daycare parents, start your marketing for your preschool. Pass out flyers, launch Facebook ads, whatever you have decided to do to get the word out, start doing it.

Last, Give Tours Of Your Brand New Preschool And Sign Up Some Students!

Remember, you will still be running a daycare during the day-to-day, so the only time you can give tours of your now preschool setup is in the evening. When the phone calls start coming in, set up those tours for the evening time after all the daycare kids have been picked up. Have a very specific script to follow. Tell them you have taught children for X amount of years. Show them your curriculum, talk about your preschool policies.

Then sign up those kiddos! Their parents will pay you a registration fee, and their monthly tuition will be billed on the first of the month—which is the same time the monthly billing for your daycare will end.
