If you’d like to build your preschooler’s fine motor skills, make sure that you don’t forget about helping them to know colors.

WHY PRESCHOOLERS SHOULD KNOW COLORS
Knowing colors helps your preschooler understand the link between visual clues and words. Identifying different colors teaches your preschooler about sorting, and can encourage early math skills. Knowing certain colors may also help keep your preschooler safe by understanding things like when the stove is red it’s hot, or skin redness could mean a rash or bug bite has occurred and they should tell someone about it.
Children will usually start out with pointing out a few colors, and then being able to name 1-5 colors, and gradually adding more as they develop. By the age of 5 preschoolers will usually be able to identify 8 or more colors. For more information about why knowing colors is so important for your preschooler’s development click here.
