If you’d like to build your preschooler’s math skills, make sure that you don’t forget about helping them categorize by color.
WHY PRESCHOOLERS SHOULD CATEGORIZE BY COLOR
Categorizing colors requires your preschooler to think, and strengthens their reasoning skills. Memorizing colors is a great first step, but it’s important not to stop at memorization alone. When your preschooler starts categorizing colors they begin to build important early math skills by identifying and sorting different objects, as well as noticing similarities.
Your preschooler will start to see that many things that fall under the same category can come in a rainbow of colors. Being able to identify that fruit can be different colors is a beginning step to your preschooler understanding that fruit is a food group, and being able to identify and name fruits.
