If you’d like to build your preschooler’s math skills, make sure that you don’t forget about helping them know times of day.
WHY PRESCHOOLERS SHOULD KNOW TIMES OF DAY
Schedules and routines are an extremely important part of your preschooler’s development because it allows for them to feel a sense of control. Knowing what’s coming next helps ease preschooler’s anxiety, and ease the transition from one activity to another. Telling time lets your preschooler anticipate when it’s time for a new activity, and allows them the opportunity to start the task before being told to do so. Performing tasks without being asked shows initiative, and teaches your preschooler about responsibility and time management. Although preschoolers likely won’t fully grasp how to read a clock, it’s important to introduce them to the idea that there are numbers behind the concept of lunch time, bath time, and dinner time.
